How to Care For Fixed Prostheses?

September 30d., 2024

Proper care of dentures affects their longevity, state of oral health and general well-being. Therefore, they must be carefully cleaned and cared for to keep prosthetic teeth long-lasting and not lose their aesthetic appearance, and the rest of your teeth stay healthy and undamaged.

Oral hygiene

Clean your teeth and mouth with a soft brush twice a day, use toothpaste according to your current oral and dental condition. Also, use interdental cleaning products and other oral hygiene products that are individually suitable for you as prescribed by a specialist.

Food and drink

It is recommended not to chew very solid food and sticky food products (lump sugar, caramel candies, baked bread, popcorn, nuts, etc.). It is not recommended to eat hot and cold food at the same time.

Cleaning

  • For those who have bridges and crowns, it is necessary to use interdental brushes and special interdental floss, which are designed to clean the areas under the intermediate parts of bridges and the connections of the crowns of prosthetic teeth. The special two-piece floss is unevenly firm, so the more solid place is convenient to insert, and the fluffier part of the floss is designed for thorough cleaning of plaque.  In addition, dentists recommend an electric irrigator for the best cleaning results.
  • For individual prosthetic teeth, interdental brushes and a simple interdental floss are sufficient.
  • Choose toothpaste and other oral care products according to the recommendations of a specialist.

Visits to the dentist

  • Two visits a year are recommended to the dentist, who will check the condition of the oral mucosa, teeth and dentures. It is necessary to do this, because the mucous membrane of your mouth and the condition of your teeth constantly change, and the dentures remain the same.  Therefore, they may need to be adjusted over time.
  • Perform professional oral hygiene every 6 months or according to the recommendations of a specialist.

Other information:
