Food
- Do not bite or chew solid foods during treatment, such as fried bread, breadcrumbs, nuts, carrots, apples. If you want to eat harder food, it should be chopped with a knife.
- Chewing gum can be chewed until it becomes stretchy. Chewing gum wraps around braces, making it more difficult to brush your teeth.
Medicines
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are used as needed to relieve pain. Use painkillers prescribed by your doctor to relieve pain.
Oral hygiene and care of braces
- Proper oral hygiene is a key factor in keeping your teeth healthy. Insufficient cleaning of the teeth leads to inflammation of the gums and caries of the teeth; a white strip of enamel demineralization may appear around the braces, which is also visible after removing the braces.
- Orthodontic wax is designed to cover a scratching brace. If you do not have a special wax, you can cover the braces with a piece of cotton wool, chewing gum. Remove the wax by brushing your teeth as food residues may accumulate underneath.
- When wearing braces, teeth are to be cleaned in the morning, evening and after each meal.
- Both ordinary and electric toothbrushes are suitable. One-tooth brushes, interdental brushes and/or mouth irrigators are additionally used.
- Professional oral hygiene is recommended every 6 months or more often if the need is observed.
- When wearing orthodontic sets, avoid injuries. Special protective dental mouthguards are recommended for patients attending contact sports training.
Contact your doctor if your braces detach, loosen and the wire pricks.
