Teeth whitening cannot be performed:
- Inflammation of the gums (gingivitis), periodontitis, damaged teeth or lip herpes.
- To pregnant women, children under 18 years of age, in case of wearing braces or straightening splints.
What result can you expect?
- The final colour of your teeth depends on the thickness of the enamel, congenital shade, age and personal habits. Teeth that are affected by antibiotics (tetracycline), decalcified or traumatised do not always become white. Therefore, it may be necessary to repeat the teeth whitening procedure in the office or to continue whitening at home with individually made splints. In rare cases, teeth whitening is not possible.
- It is important to understand: fillings, crowns and veneers do not become white during whitening.
- If your teeth are sensitive, you have allergies, you are taking medications or you are waiting for medical or surgical treatment, you should inform your oral hygiene specialist thereof before the procedure.
After teeth whitening
The result
- In most cases, the colour of the teeth becomes lighter immediately after whitening, but the final result is seen between 1 and 2 weeks.
- Teeth do not stay white forever. If you avoid colouring foods and drinks and smoking, the colour of your teeth can be maintained for 6-12 months.
- If you want to get the maximum whiteness of your teeth, we recommend extending the whitening procedure at home with individually made teeth whitening splints.
Possible side effects
Mild teeth sensitivity may occur, especially to thermal stimuli. This usually lasts from 1 to 2 days. If the sensitivity persists for longer, please contact your dentist or oral hygiene specialist.
Nutrition
- Do not eat for 1-2 hours after the procedure.
- Avoid colouring foods during the first 24 to 48 hours (e.g.: bright and coloured fruits, vegetables, sauces) and beverages (e.g.: juice, black coffee, black and green tea, red wine, etc.). To maintain a white smile for longer, keep using them in moderation.
Smoking
Do not smoke or reduce smoking to a minimum, as tobacco darkens the colour of the teeth.
Oral hygiene
- Use remineralizing types of toothpaste/creams containing fluoride, xylitol, hydroxyapatites to reduce teeth sensitivity.
- It is important to choose the right toothpaste and rinse liquids. If the products are made on the basis of herbs, they can darken the teeth.
- Regularly perform professional oral hygiene, every 6 months
